Let’s Talk About the Good News
by Tera Thomas
Many years ago I was helping a client and her lovely dog during what seemed on the outside to be a very difficult and painful transition. The woman was crying as she described her dog’s inability to get comfortable, the restless night they had had, and the fact that the gruel she was force feeding wouldn’t stay down. I wanted to cry too. When it was finally the dog’s turn to speak she said: “Let’s talk about the good news. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, and we have this day to be together. Isn’t that what’s important?”
With so much bad news being reported, we often forget to focus on what’s important, and also on what is really true. If one were to listen to the media reports about the state of our world it would seem as if things will never change. Yet, so many things have changed tremendously in the last decade.
Ten years ago, most scientists publicly resisted the idea that animals had feelings. They still argue that the emotions of animals are more limited than ours and that most animals are not self-aware. But now those ideas are getting a new look and soon they too will be outdated.
Ten years ago there were very few working animal communicators and I was likely to get an incredulous look from people who thought I must be weird or delusional. Now I have clients and students from all walks of life, and even people who haven’t actually heard of animal communicators don’t seem to find the idea strange at all.
The medical community is beginning to accept the idea that energy healing, prayer, homeopathy, and a myriad of other alternative healing modalities are, in fact, viable and effective.
Every day people are waking up to the fact that we are responsible for this planet and it’s clear that we can’t separate ourselves anymore, we all are in this together.
These are all outward signs of progress, and all good news. But, to me, the deeper good news is that people are beginning to recognize that we are spiritual beings and that changing the world can be accomplished within our own hearts.
Recently I was compiling quotes from the Hummingbird Farm animals and I was deeply moved by the beauty and wisdom they have shared:
Inka (llama): “A better world is not in the future, it is now. Trust in your own heart and bring into the world the love that you see for the earth and the animals and your fellow humans. That is how the ‘better world’ lives in this moment, right here and right now.”
Max (dog): “We see the beauty in every person, even if the person can’t see it themselves. We love to show people that no matter how bad they feel, they are still loveable.”
Tuli Bear (cat):“People seem to measure everything in time—how much there is to go, what you have left, how little there seems to be. Cats don’t think like this. The truth is, every physical body has limited time, but why focus on that? It is a miracle every day when the sun comes up. Have a catnip party, or lie in a sun spot, and just love each other every single day.”
Maia (cat): “Hug yourself. Look in the mirror and tell yourself how beautiful you are. Love yourself. When you embrace your own unique self you are telling the world how grateful you are to be here. And that makes all species want to share their own beautiful selves with you. We are all beautiful. Remember that.”
Shanti (llama): “Some say that healing is an art, a gift, or a miracle. I say that healing is a simple moment of raising one’s vibration to resonate with All That Is. A healing can occur from a smile, a touch, a glance. We are all spiritual beings, here to experience the physical reality. If we remember this and understand that it is our spirit that needs to be healed and reconnected, then we can become whole. This is the goal for all humans—to remember your connection to all of life and so become whole.”
From my own human perspective, listening to the animals instead of the nightly news would greatly help us to change this world even faster than it is changing. Inka says, “It’s not just the animals who know the truth, it is your own heart. Why not listen to that?”
So, okay, I will take Inka’s advice and listen to my own heart. And I find that when I do, even what I might consider bad news is touched with love and compassion. That love colors everything; it changes me and it changes the world. This is how we create harmony; how we create beauty; how we make whole our selves and our world. Now that can only be good news!
